Infographic “The Catastrophe of the Silver Age”

Task

A timeline of the lives of 25 poets of the early 20th century: birth, first publication, books, emigration and return, arrests and repression, death — names in a column, dates from left to right.

What was done

Gathering and checking the dates of 25 poets against sources; first versions of the chart in ChatGPT and Gamma. The interactive timeline on this page was made with Claude. It turned out that of the 19 who stayed or returned, 9 died a violent death; of the 6 émigrés, none.

The Catastrophe of the Silver Age

Why this timeline. In February 2026 Yuri Gordon asked me to make an infographic about the poets of the Silver Age and remarked that those who left lived longer than those who stayed. To test this idea, I gathered the life dates of 25 poets — birth, debut, main collections, emigration, arrests, death — and checked them against sources. Here is the same data in interactive form: hover over any row and filter the poets by their fate. This interactive version exists nowhere else: I built it for the portfolio.
